Payroll Accounting

ayroll Accountant is responsible for managing and processing employee payroll while ensuring accuracy, compliance with tax laws, and proper financial reporting. This role combines payroll administration with accounting responsibilities, including maintaining payroll records, reconciling payroll accounts, and supporting audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage employee payroll on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis.

  • Ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and on time.

  • Maintain payroll records including wages, bonuses, deductions, and benefits.

  • Calculate and process payroll taxes and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

  • Reconcile payroll accounts in the general ledger.

  • Prepare payroll reports for management and accounting departments.

  • Coordinate with HR regarding employee changes such as new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments.

  • Ensure proper deduction of benefits, retirement contributions, and garnishments.

  • Assist with payroll audits and financial audits.

  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.

  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll information and employee data.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).

  • Proven experience in payroll processing or payroll accounting.

  • Knowledge of payroll systems and accounting software.

  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes and labor laws.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

  • Strong communication and time-management skills.
